CENTR Barcelona and the Future of the Internet

This week our CEO, Alexa Raad, and I attended the Council of European National Top Level Domain Registries (CENTR) conference in Barcelona, Spain. I was excited to provide a presentation on the DNSSEC Industry Coalition started by our company last August. The coalition includes major Internet community leaders and is working to increase understanding and widespread implementation of DNSSEC.

The CENTR conference was hosted by Fundació puntCAT, the .CAT registry operator, who did a great job organizing the conference and planning fun events that also showcased the wonderful city of Barcelona. The CENTR conference included many great presentations including one panel that provided an interesting comparison of the differences between ccTLDs and new gTLDs with an emphasis on the importance of understanding the different needs and obligations of both groups. Another presentation provided insight into the future of the Internet. Registries were reminded of the fast changing world of the Internet that includes new mobile devices and service offerings. The CENTR conference is always a great opportunity to share ideas and discuss issues of common concern. I was grateful to have had the chance to attend this meeting and to gain a better understanding of the important issues facing our colleagues in the European ccTLD community.
