Being Vigilant on Internet Security

If you happened to go to our website on Sunday, December 7, from approximately 8pm – 11pm EST (UTC 01:00 - 04:00, 8 December), chances are you did not reach it.

The PIR website was the target of a hacker last night causing an outage of the site. This had absolutely no effect on the registry operations or any customer .ORG domain names.

Our team was vigilant and caught the issue very early on and brought our website back up - we are analyzing the incident and working with law enforcement.

The bottom line: We felt it was important to communicate the facts immediately and directly. The global threats we all face as businesses (and domain name registrants) on a regular basis reaffirms the need to be vigilant on security. Although our site is back up, we felt it was important that you heard about it from us first.
