Protecting Against Online Malfeasance at the Nonprofit PR Awards

This week, I had the opportunity to attend PR News’s Nonprofit PR Awards as a winner in the Marketing category for .ORG’s DNSSEC Rollout for promotion, education and awareness around DNS Security Extensions.  We beat out some very good campaigns/organizations for this award, including BackBay Communications, Bloomington Hospital, First 5 LA/Hershey Causes, Foundation for Chiropractic, and Goodwill Industries!   We were excited to be nominated and chosen for this award as it is a challenge

One Web Day – One Web. For All.

One Web Day is September 22, 2009. One Web Day celebrates that the Worldwide Web belongs to everyone. Built on a principle of openness and interconnection, every person and institution that goes online to connect and create experiences makes a contribution to the ever growing, evolving One Web that is transforming society.

The .ORG Community - Continuing to Lead the Way

NPR’s recently launched iPhone app is being hailed as the most robust news app currently out there, beating out the others, such as AP Mobile, particularly because of its ability to link the user to over 1000 live NPR stations (even allowing you to search for your closest regional affiliate by GPS!) and offering the ability to listen to live streams, anywhere, anytime.

Perspectives from a Nonprofit Domain Name Registry on Navigating the Social Media Frontier

At .ORG, we are big fans of using and managing multiple social media vehicles to promote engagement and interactivity within our global community.

“What’s Your Dream?” – Get Started at DreamBank.org Today

This month, we’re recognizing a fantastic organization based in Canada as our current Extraordinary .ORG, DreamBank.org. With a tagline that reads “Give Dreams. Not Stuff,” DreamBank is the “new model for gift-giving” and has a very innovative and community-based approach to their cause that we at .ORG love to see in our larger community.

Only 1 More Week to Nominate Your Favorite .ORG for the NTC .ORG Ambassador Awards!

Reminder, Reminder!  Don’t waste another second and nominate your favorite .ORG to become the first ever NTC .ORG Ambassador.  The awards will be announced at this year’s NTC Conference in San Francisco from April 26 – 28, 2009, from the Nonprofit Technology Network (NTEN).

Earth Hour: Being a Part of the Action

5Earth Hour began in Sydney in 2007, when 2.2 million homes and businesses switched off their lights for one hour. In 2008 the message had grown into a global sustainability movement, with 50 million people switching off their lights. Global landmarks such as the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, Rome’s Colosseum, the Sydney Opera House and the Coca Cola billboard in Times Square all stood in darkness.

Announcing the 1st Annual NTC .ORG Ambassador Awards!

We are very excited to announce the debut of the .ORG Ambassador Awards at this year’s NTC Conference in San Francisco from April 26 – 28, 2009, from the Nonprofit Technology Network (NTEN). Formed in the spirit of collaboration and community that we’re continually promoting across the .ORG domain, this year’s Ambassador will be a recognized leader! The primary category for award nominations will be in the ‘Tech Savvy’ area, noting key ways your .ORG uses technology and social media to advance your missions worldwide or in your community.

The Web is the World

I attended the Internet Outlook breakfast hosted by The Potomac Tech Wire at the Tyson’s Ritz Carlton in Vienna, VA yesterday and was excited with the great topics and dynamic ideas flowing from the panel members on trends and business models working now that will most likely change or already have changed to go into the future with the evolution of the Internet, particularly through social media, and online advertising.

The Internet puts ubiquity at our fingertips

This week, I am attending the Webby Connect conference in Dana Point, California until Friday, October 24. Why is .ORG interested in this type of conference? The team behind .ORG continues looking to bridge the gap between a person or company with a domain name to an online presence and identity.
