On the Pressing Need for a Signed Root

Attacks on the security of the Internet have been much in the news lately, and there is an increased urgency to take the technical steps to combat these attacks. .ORG has been doing its part to lead this process by taking introductory steps to implement DNSSEC (Domain Name System Security Extensions). ICANN GNSO Improvements Accepted – Voting Balance Maintained

The GNSO Improvements working group wrapped up its work in a marathon negotiating session on Friday 25 July.

The ICANN Board had told the GNSO to work out a consensus on the structure of the new GNSO Council; if the GNSO could not reach consensus, the Board would make its own decision on the structure.

The good news is that the concept of a bicameral GNSO Council was accepted by all parties.

ICANN: Focus on Security

As the 32nd Annual ICANN meeting closes in Paris, .ORG, The Public Interest Registry, continued to use this important worldwide forum to advocate policies that support the mission of .ORG to serve all worldwide .ORGs as an exemplary registry.

A highlight of the meeting was the ICANN Board’s approval of the .ORG proposal to implement Domain Name Security Extensions (“DNSSEC”). .ORG believes the implementation of DNSSEC will significantly advance the security and stability of the Domain Name System. The protection of Internet users and registrants has always been a priority for .ORG.
