In a joint document, Afilias, NeuStar, and PIR discuss the salient issues facing the ICANN Board regarding a proposal for registry/registrar vertical integration in the newTLD round.   The paper identifies some of the risks associated with the ICANN Staff proposal while at the same time proposing a path forward that does not jeopardize any further delay in the new gTLD launch process.

An Authenticated Internet

Discussions around DNSSEC are so often focused on the root, the attacks, what DNSSEC does and doesn’t do and so on – and these are all valid and important points. But there is far less attention focused on the opportunities that will surface from an authenticated internet.

The .ORG Community - Continuing to Lead the Way

NPR’s recently launched iPhone app is being hailed as the most robust news app currently out there, beating out the others, such as AP Mobile, particularly because of its ability to link the user to over 1000 live NPR stations (even allowing you to search for your closest regional affiliate by GPS!) and offering the ability to listen to live streams, anywhere, anytime.

Teen Angels – Educating Young Internet Users to be Safe Online

The Internet is a great tool for communication, education and entertainment. However, like any open community, the Internet can be targeted by criminals who intend harm to users.  Some of the worst online criminals prey on children. They use the Internet because they know the Internet is fun and that kids enjoy being online.

Advocating for Domain Name Registry-Registrar Separation

.ORG, The Public Interest Registry has, since its inception, advocated for policies designed to reflect the public interest, namely of fair and open competition that benefits not only .ORG, but all Internet users. ICANN is now faced with a critically important decision on whether to remove the trusted and proven safeguards that prevent registrars from owning and operating registries.
