It’s Time For School Supplies

A new school year is quickly approaching and as I stare at the dreaded list for school supplies, I can’t help but think about all the parents who cannot afford to purchase a single notebook. The fact is, 20% of children in the US live in poverty. That means 16 million kids will go without basic school supplies every year. Not so long ago, my two kids were among the 16 million as the result of my unemployment.
During my hardship, I learned about a program called Staples for Students on one of my favorite websites, dosomething.org. Dosomething.org allows kids and families to get involved in collecting school supplies for needy families and provides resources to help spread the word about this program and many other amazing ones. They provide online tools for supply drives, donation suggestions and a lot more.
Through this generous program, I was able to provide my children their needed school supplies and send them off to school prepared and well equipped. Thankfully, I can now provide my kids with school supplies on my own, and my gratitude goes out to Staples for Students and hundreds of similar charities that contribute to families under burden. If you haven’t done so, please visit dosomething.org and learn about all their great campaigns. Have a great school year everyone!
